About the role

Kraus-Anderson Construction Company’s Project Engineer Internship program offers ambitious college students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in the real world of commercial construction. This internship is designed for students interested in pursuing a career as a Project Manager or Superintendent. Consideration for full-time employment is contingent on completion of the program, the quality of work produced, and the intern’s demonstrated interest.

Responsibilities

The Project Engineer mentor will provide direction and support, encouraging interns to develop an understanding of their assigned responsibilities. The Project Engineer Intern will gain exposure to the following duties and goals:

  • Develop an understanding of the process in which KA delivers construction projects.
  • Gain exposure to construction methods and terminology both in the field and in the office.
  • Assist in providing guidance to subcontractors in solving project-related problems.
  • Assist with production schedules and worker hour requirements for job completion.
  • Confer with subcontractors to plan and execute work procedures, interpret specifications, and coordinate various phases of construction.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and maintain records of project progress.
  • Ensure safety-related documentation is complete, detailed, and accurate, including site safety audits, toolbox talks, and jobsite orientations.
  • Assist in jobsite Quality Assurance and engage KA’s Quality Assurance Team for quality-related issues.

Project Manager Track

  • Participate in the team approach to estimating, bidding, and construction of a project.
  • Interact with and understand the relationships between owners, architects, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Achieve proficiency in understanding and interpreting plans, specifications, contracts, schedules, and other construction documents.
  • Enhance field experience on construction job sites.
  • Demonstrate the ability to assemble and prepare detailed technical documents common to the construction industry.

Superintendent Track

  • Study specifications and drawings to plan construction procedures, including starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase.
  • Assist in ensuring procured tools and materials are delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Prepare or review reports on progress, materials used, costs, and adjust work schedules as needed.
  • Advise the Superintendent of any project-related issues.
  • Conduct site safety walks to ensure all personnel adhere to safety regulations.
  • Run project-specific errands for the on-site superintendent staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of education from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in standard business computer programs and other job-relevant software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and provide leadership for project coordination.

Pay

Salary Range: $19.00 to $24.00 hourly. While the range listed represents the anticipated hiring range for this position, offers at the upper end of the range are uncommon. Pay is based on many factors including education, skill, experience, training, certifications, and other business needs.
