Kraus-Anderson Construction Company’s Project Engineer Internship program offers ambitious college students the opportunity to put their knowledge and skills to work in the real world of commercial construction. The internship provides students interested in pursuing a career track in either a Project Manager or Superintendent role the chance to learn and gain hands-on experience. Consideration for full-time employment is contingent on the completion of the program, the quality of work produced, and the amount of interest displayed by the intern.

Responsibilities

The Project Engineer Intern will be exposed to the following duties and goals:

  • Develop an understanding of the responsibilities of a Project Manager or Superintendent
  • Gain exposure to construction methods and terminology both in the field and in the office
  • Assist in providing guidance to subcontractors in solving problems associated with projects
  • Assist with production schedules and worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments
  • Confer with subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction
  • Conduct regular project reviews and maintain records of project progress
  • Ensure safety-related documentation is complete, detailed, and accurate; this includes site safety audits, toolbox talks, and jobsite orientations
  • Assist in jobsite Quality Assurance and engagement of KA’s Quality Assurance Team to address quality-related issues

Project Manager Track

  • Participate in the team approach to estimating, bidding, and construction of a project
  • Interact and understand the relationships between various parties of a construction contract including owners, architects, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Achieve proficiency in understanding and interpreting plans, specifications, contracts, schedules, and other construction documents
  • Enhance field experience on construction job sites
  • Demonstrate the ability to assemble and prepare detailed technical documents common to the construction industry

Superintendent Track

  • Study specifications and drawings to plan procedures for construction based on starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of the project
  • Assist in ensuring procured tools and materials are delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules
  • Prepare or review reports on progress, materials used, costs, and support adjustments to work schedules
  • Advise Superintendent of any issues associated with the project
  • Conduct site safety walks to assure all personnel are familiar with and adhere to safety regulations
  • Run project-specific errands for the on-site superintendent staff as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of education from an accredited college or university
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in standard business computer programs and other job-relevant software
  • Excellent problem-solving and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and provide leadership for project coordination

Pay

Salary Range: $19.00 to $24.00 hourly. While the range listed represents the anticipated hiring range for this position, offers at the upper end of the range are uncommon. Pay is based on many factors including but not limited to education, skill, experience, training, certifications, and other business needs.
