Project Engineer III - Energy

About the role
The Project Engineer III is responsible for the identification and development of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) and Facility Improvement Measures (FIMs) that are the basis of Guaranteed Energy Savings Projects. The position requires an innovative solutions-oriented engineer. Leadership is required to work within the project development to fully develop the solutions and stay on schedule. High importance is placed on communication skills to convey the solutions with accurate scopes of work, existing conditions, energy savings, and M&V plan.
Responsibilities
- Communicates regularly with all team members regarding project development progress, open and closed tasks and issues.
- Analyze facility utility consumption, review capital and operating budgets, set preliminary performance targets and perform initial energy savings benchmarking.
- Conduct facility walk-thru to identify/verify preliminary scope items.
- Participate in project meetings during all phases of project.
- Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria required on projects.
- Create a development timeline, budget, and project development control index.
- Provide facility existing conditions descriptions, Utility Analysis, Facility Energy Profile, preliminary Facility Improvement and Energy Conservation Measure explanations.
- Identify potential Energy Savings, applicable Utility Rebates, or Incentives.
- Engage third-party consultants for design assistance or review.
- Develop detailed Scopes of Work, Specifications and Preliminary Implementation Schedule.
- Solicit bids from qualified subcontractors by conducting facility walk-thru with Operations team.
- Define final project scope and revise Scope of Work Documents to rebid, as necessary.
- Generate and finalize the Project Estimate.
- Complete energy savings calculations and/or energy modelling for the establishment of the project’s energy savings guarantee.
- Validate the Energy Savings Guarantee and M&V Plan.
- Assist with the Final Contract preparation.
- Participate in final Turnover Meeting with the Development and Operations Teams.
- Review contractor submittals to determine conformance with contract documents.
- Support the Project Manager as required during Construction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 10+ years’ experience in energy-related field with experience in the development of Energy Conservations Measures.
- Professional Engineer Licensure.
- Certified Energy Manager credentials highly preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
Skills
- Proficiency in computer applications, preferably Microsoft Office with an understanding of Microsoft Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
- AutoCAD/Revit experience desired.
- Strong relationship and communicative skills demonstrated by the ability to work collaboratively with a team of like-minded Professionals, Owner representatives, third-party consultants and/or subcontractor’s representatives.
Work Environment
- This position requires most of the work to be accomplished in an office environment.
- Physical demands include sitting for periods of time at a computer with the freedom to walk around the office when necessary; occasional phone, copy machine, and other office machine use; participation in teleconferences using a headset/earpiece; and lifting up to 25 lbs. as needed.
- Some visits to job sites will be required.
- May require some travel (<20%), mostly to local job sites.
