About the role
We are seeking a Sr. Project Engineer for our North Texas Division to apply expertise and project engineering skills in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Notifies subcontractors of commencement dates; solicits delivery schedules from suppliers; expedites deliveries to avoid costly construction delays.
- Participates in the detailed estimating of cost and construction time for proposed changes; may participate in direct negotiations with owners about change orders; ensures contract plans and the master schedule are updated properly after negotiations.
- Prepares submittal schedule to meet construction schedule and coordinates submissions with subcontractors; assumes overall responsibility for submittals, including accuracy checks, transmittals, and maintaining logs; expedites delivery of submittals to avoid delays; keeps project manager informed of submissions impacting the schedule.
- Prepares and/or oversees preparation of project reports such as material logs, submittal logs, RFI logs, drawing logs, and long-lead items log as required by owners and/or company operating procedures.
- Assists the project manager in the preparation of subcontracts; resolves problems regarding interpretation and/or execution of the subcontract; alerts the project manager to unresolved issues and proposes alternative courses of action.
- Assists in the verification of monthly subcontractor payment requests.
- May locate suppliers for various building materials; reviews invoices to verify quantity, quality, and prices for construction materials.
- Responds to requests for information (RFIs) from owners and subcontractors; prepares RFIs for the project architect and/or structural engineer to clarify technical issues; ensures responses are routed to applicable field superintendents and subcontractors.
- Assists in compiling close-out documents, including as-built drawings, guarantees, warranties, service manuals, and other related documents for delivery to the owner; may prepare Austin’s warranty and assist in preparing other close-out documents.
- Participates in jobsite safety as outlined in the company’s Safety & Health Manual.
- When not assigned to a project, generally works in the Estimating department preparing detailed cost estimates; may assist with value engineering activities and pricing alternate procedures; interacts with a wide variety of construction professionals.
Requirements
- B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years’ work experience in the construction industry.
- Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment).
- Experience with RFI, submittals, and punch-list processes.
- Must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States; Austin Commercial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.
