Actalent supports complex mission-critical and data-center projects by coordinating project operations, financial tracking, procurement, and documentation. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-tech, MEP-intensive environments while growing within a collaborative, people-centered construction team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement activities, including invitations to bid (ITBs), contracts, subcontracts, and change orders, using Procore and other project management tools.
  • Administer and track submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and related documentation to ensure timely responses and accurate records.
  • Support project financials by managing commitments, performing monthly reconciliations, preparing pay applications, and tracking costs against budgets.
  • Coordinate project setup activities, including scheduling, permitting, and establishing documentation protocols and controls.
  • Organize and document project meetings, including preparing agendas, recording minutes, and tracking action items to completion.
  • Lead and support project closeout activities, including punch list management, final documentation, and turnover packages.
  • Maintain current project drawings, logs, and reports to ensure transparency, accuracy, and alignment with field conditions.
  • Facilitate clear communication between project stakeholders, including internal teams, trade partners, and clients, to resolve issues and maintain alignment.
  • Assist with preconstruction and estimating activities, including reviewing drawings, scopes, and quantities for mission-critical and data-center projects.
  • Support multiple concurrent projects while ensuring quality, timely delivery, and adherence to construction best practices and safety expectations.
  • Provide mentorship and day-to-day guidance to junior team members, supporting their development and helping resolve project issues.
  • Collaborate with field teams to support site, structure, exterior, and MEP-related coordination on complex, high-tech projects.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements and helping implement best practices in project engineering and construction management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a Project Engineer on mission-critical, data-center, high-tech, or complex MEP-intensive projects.
  • 2+ years of project engineering experience with site, structure, or exterior scopes preferred.
  • 2+ years of project engineering experience with MEP systems preferred.
  • Experience in preconstruction and estimating for construction projects.
  • Proficiency with Procore for managing procurement, RFIs, submittals, contracts, and change orders.
  • Strong construction management skills, including cost tracking, commitments, pay applications, and monthly reconciliations.
  • Ability to manage RFIs, submittals, insurance documentation, contract administration, and overall document coordination.
  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to quickly learn and apply new systems, tools, and technologies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams, trade partners, and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting.
  • High level of engagement and an empathetic, people-centered approach to teamwork and leadership.
  • Demonstrated customer service mindset with working knowledge of customer service principles and best practices.
  • Willingness and ability to relocate or travel to Kansas City, Missouri for approximately 6 months for an initial project and to travel to other U.S. project locations as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of project engineering experience in mission-critical, data-center, or MEP-intensive projects is also suitable and welcomed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working on data-center, mission-critical, or high-tech facilities, including coordination of MEP systems.
  • Familiarity with complex, high-stakes construction environments such as workplace, amenity, hospitality, healthcare, lab and life sciences, and education sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and trade partners on schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Track record of showing empathy, integrity, perseverance, and curiosity in professional settings.
  • Comfort working in a culture that values humility, respect, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

This role supports small to mid-size data-center and mission-critical projects across the United States, with an initial assignment in Kansas City, Missouri. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday, with travel required to project sites for extended durations (approximately six months for the first project). The environment is a mix of office and active construction site settings, involving regular collaboration with field teams, trade partners, and project stakeholders. You will work with modern construction technologies and tools, including Procore and other project management platforms, in an organization that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and high-quality delivery. Pay

The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $53.00/hr.

Schedule

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL, and is fully onsite. The role typically operates Monday through Friday, with travel required to project sites for extended durations.
