Project Engineer I-ENG

Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is seeking talented Project Engineers to join our Project Management Department in Downers Grove, IL. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging design projects across various industries, primarily in the process and power sectors.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in planning, organizing, and controlling assigned aspects of a project, including monitoring schedules and budgets, evaluating productivity and quality, and directing technical operations.
• Implement assignments and activities delegated by the Project Manager.
• Define work scope, prepare schedules and budgets for small projects, and update them as needed.
• Assist in developing cost estimates for additional work or contract modifications.
• Coordinate discipline engineering activities for deliverable development.
• Review engineered drawings for consistency with work scope and discipline input.
• Assist engineering discipline leads in coordinating efforts and deliverables from overseas and domestic offices.
• Facilitate Zachry Group’s quality control procedures for deliverable generation, archiving, and distribution.
• Ensure field trip reports and meeting minutes are completed accurately and timely.
• Review reports for consistency with contractual requirements.
• Manage project communications using appropriate project management tools.
• Ensure proper work hour control and report Engineering Change Notices to the Project Manager.
• Prepare progress reports.
• Support interactive planning sessions for scheduling engineering activities.
• Review and evaluate staff expenditures, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Update and clarify project outcomes, deliverables, potential problems, and needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
• 3 to 8 years of experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Power, and/or Renewable Energy sectors.
• Experience as a Project Engineer or related project management role preferred; otherwise, engineering discipline experience is required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination and client/vendor interactions.
• Organized, self-directed, and able to prioritize tasks in a team environment.
• Willingness to learn and work across multiple industries.
• Based in Downers Grove, IL, with willingness to travel and work in office or field environments as required.

Physical Demands

• Communicate in person, via telephone, email, video chat, and software systems.
• May require visits to construction sites and industrial facilities, including mobility on ground and at heights.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, ear protection, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and work boots.

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based in Downers Grove, IL, with potential work in operating plants, warehouses, or construction sites.
• Noise levels may be moderate to high at job sites.
• Job sites may include equipment vehicles, materials, communication tools, and personnel in various activities.
