About the role
Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, employs people in a variety of roles within our eight-state footprint. We are seeking a nimble, detail-oriented Project Engineer to support our mission in Illinois. This role involves planning, designing, and managing water and wastewater improvement projects under the general supervision of the Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
- Plan for assigned divisions/systems.
- Manage the design of water and sewer improvement projects (e.g., tanks, boosters, lift stations, WTP projects, WWTP projects, regulating vaults).
- Collaborate with the hydraulic modeling team to evaluate and mitigate system-wide challenges.
- Submit required permits and approvals; prepare and supervise permit applications to ensure all necessary approvals are obtained.
- Coordinate and manage construction projects, including bidding, scheduling, and cost estimating.
- Enforce contract requirements and perform construction administration on assigned projects.
- Work with consultants to secure necessary easements; negotiate and prepare property easements, oversee property descriptions, surveys, and legal recording.
- Manage project financials, including work orders, purchase orders, and invoicing.
- Collaborate with statewide departments: operations, engineering, accounting, and customer service.
- Conduct due diligence for possible new acquisitions.
- Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
- Must be a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois or able to obtain a PE license within three years from hire date.
- Two or more years of experience in water and wastewater is preferred.
Skills
- Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally with internal customers.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player able to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-tasking environment.
Working Conditions
- Perform sedentary work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or negligible force frequently.
- Primarily involves sitting for extended periods.
- May require travel to work sites within the State of Illinois.
Pay
Hiring salary range: $81,975.36 - $108,412.41.
