Project Engineer - Federal Construction

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications; maintain and distribute drawings; collect cost, scope, and schedule impacts from subcontractors; ensure accuracy and efficiency of as‑builts and mark‑ups.
  • Manage the submittal process by creating submittal schedules from specifications, collaborating with subcontractors, updating submittals in project management software, and distributing them appropriately.
  • Create, track, and maintain the Request for Information (RFI) workflow; distribute RFIs promptly to the project team; clarify questions and post responses to drawings, following up on schedule and cost impacts.
  • Schedule meetings, take minutes, and distribute meeting minutes to project stakeholders.
  • Compile closeout documentation including warranties, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, as‑built drawings, and final inspections; facilitate owner training and provide red‑line drawings to the client.
  • Partner with the project team to capture, distribute, and close punch‑list items in the project management software.
  • Assist with the inspection process, permitting, and other regulatory requirements as needed.
  • Ensure all documentation is submitted and archived appropriately for turnover.
  • Support safety processes by ensuring subcontractors submit required safety documentation.
  • Assist with warranty issues, organizing subcontractors, ensuring work completion, communicating with the client, and identifying cost impacts.
  • Assist with quality control measures, ensuring adherence to sustainability plans.

Work Environment

This role operates in both construction job‑site environments and professional office settings. Standard office equipment and personal protective equipment are routinely used. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.

Physical Demands

The employee regularly sits and uses manual dexterity, and frequently stands, walks, speaks, hears, uses eye/hand coordination, and reaches with arms and hands. Work often occurs outdoors in varying temperatures, fumes, smoke, gases, uneven surfaces, noise, vibrations, and around moving equipment. Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders, balancing, stooping, and crouching are required. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Schedule

Ability to travel to multiple locations or job sites daily or weekly as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • OSHA 30 certification or ability to complete it upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience using Bluebeam.
  • Experience with a general contractor on commercial building projects.
  • Experience working as a Project Engineer.
  • Experience using construction management software.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
  • Experience managing permitting and licensing processes.
  • File management experience.

Pay

Salary range: $72,000 – $90,000.
