About the role
The Project Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, and testing of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)-controlled equipment at customer sites. This role involves hands-on work with electrical technicians to bring up control cabinets, load and configure PLC software, and execute tests to verify system functionality and performance.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison for all onsite commissioning support, issue resolution, and coordination across departments.
- Ensure all commissioning workload, progress, and reporting are accurately updated and maintained in Jira per project.
- Partner with team leadership to design, benchmark, and standardize commissioning processes from scratch.
- Audit third-party contractor work and documentation to ensure strict adherence to company processes.
- Conduct one-on-one discussions with engineers to verify the content and status of Jira tickets, ensuring no missing details.
- Track and verify that timesheet hours align with commissioning tasks and projects.
- Resolve blocked and rejected Jira items by working directly with assigned engineers.
- Facilitate weekly training sessions and documentation updates to support continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with project managers to address and resolve blocking issues.
- Travel as needed to work onsite with project managers, scrum masters, the commissioning team, and leadership.
- Participate in new product development initiatives by attending design reviews, workshops, and cross-functional planning sessions to ensure commissioning requirements, deliverables, documentation, and field support needs are identified and addressed throughout the development process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in either electrical or mechanical engineering, or in automated production management, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience with PLC (Allen Bradley), Robot (ABB, Fanuc), Industrial networking (Ethernet/IP), or Operator interface (Panel View Plus).
- Mechanical Engineer, or an engineer with heavy hands-on mechanical experience, is highly preferred.
- Experience with motion control equipment such as VFDs and the ability to debug and support via Remote Desktop, SSH, browser, etc.
- Demonstrated proficiency in managing projects across broad internal stakeholders to execute project scope and timeline.
- Demonstrated ability to schedule complex work with dependencies and to drive production.
- Track record of exceeding project deliverables while remaining on time and within budget.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
- Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including without limitation Lock out tag out safety protocols and fall protection safety protocols.
- Must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of industrial automation and robotics.
- Experience with project management tools like Jira.

Pay
The base range for this position in the posted location is $96,000.00 - $132,000.00 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Schedule
This is a remote, field-based position. Travel is required up to 75% of the time.
