About the Role
L3Harris Technologies is seeking an experienced Specialist, Project & Component Engineer to support the development, integration, production, and lifecycle management of propulsion and pressurant components within assigned defense programs. The role focuses on components such as tanks, pressure switches, filters, regulators, transducers, and valves, while also supporting advanced propulsion systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering, operations, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure components meet technical, schedule, cost, quality, and performance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Project & Component Engineering
- Execute multiple phases of pressurant and propellant component development and production.
- Support engineering activities throughout the complete product lifecycle.
- Apply engineering principles, concepts, and practices to develop solutions to technical challenges.
- Support the production and fabrication of rocket engine component assemblies.
- Translate engineering and scientific concepts from preliminary designs through final product implementation.
- Coordinate technical activities across multiple engineering and operational functions.
- Supplier & Manufacturing Support
- Work with external suppliers to ensure technical requirements are achieved on time and within budget.
- Support supplier integration and resolution of technical or manufacturing issues.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams to improve component quality and effectiveness.
- Support production systems, manufacturing processes, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Travel to suppliers and other production locations as required.
- Design, Integration & Testing
- Analyze and verify product designs and performance for adequacy, reliability, and compliance.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Support hardware and process anomaly investigations.
- Participate in preventative and corrective action activities.
- Coordinate with subject matter experts to develop and refine engineering specifications.
- Support trade studies, design concepts, system integration activities, and component-level test plans.
- Support the integration of critical subassemblies within rocket propulsion components.
- Program Coordination
- Interface with project teams, program management, technical staff, and other stakeholders.
- Provide coordination of technical, schedule, and cost solutions.
- Identify, communicate, and address engineering and production issues.
- Develop moderate enhancements and process improvements to increase effectiveness.
- Support program objectives while maintaining technical and operational requirements.
- Work extended hours when necessary to meet business objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience, OR
- Graduate degree with at least 2 years of relevant engineering experience, OR
- In lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and product development processes.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain organizations.
- Ability to analyze technical issues and support effective engineering solutions.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to support occasional business travel, including travel to suppliers and production facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Understanding of production systems, manufacturing methods, and lean manufacturing principles.
- Comprehensive project engineering experience.
- Previous experience in the defense or aerospace industry.
- Existing U.S. security clearance.
- Experience with CREO CAD software.
- Experience with Windchill PLM systems.
- Experience designing, manufacturing, or testing valves, pressure regulators, pressure switches, tanks, or transducers.
- Experience with large component assemblies and integration of critical subassemblies.
- Knowledge of rocket propulsion systems and advanced aerospace components.
- Strong problem-solving, technical analysis, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Pay
California Salary Range: $92,500–$171,500 per year. Final compensation may vary based on experience, geographic location, education, skills, and other applicable factors.
Schedule
This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, with employees working nine days over a two-week period and having every other Friday off.
