Project Engineer
About the Role
L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Specialist, Project and Component Engineer to support defense programs involving pressurant and propellant components, including tanks, pressure switches, filters, regulators, transducers, and valves. The position will support multiple phases of engineering projects and advanced propulsion systems while working closely with engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, suppliers, and program management teams. The successful candidate will help ensure technical requirements, schedules, costs, quality standards, and customer expectations are met throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support production and fabrication activities for rocket engine components and assemblies.
- Apply engineering principles to develop solutions for technical and manufacturing challenges.
- Coordinate technical, schedule, and cost activities across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Work with external suppliers to ensure requirements are achieved on time and within budget.
- Analyze and verify product design and performance for reliability and adequacy.
- Investigate and resolve hardware, manufacturing, and process issues.
- Support corrective and preventive action activities.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop specifications, trade studies, design concepts, and component-level test plans.
- Support systems integration and engineering development activities.
- Interpret technical requirements and contribute to improvements in engineering processes and systems.
- Coordinate with engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain organizations.
- Travel to suppliers and production sites as needed, with travel of up to 10%.
- Work extended hours when necessary to meet business objectives.
- Obtain and maintain the required U.S. security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of relevant engineering experience, or
- Graduate degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or
- At least 8 years of relevant engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles.
- Knowledge of production systems, manufacturing methods, and lean manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of project engineering.
- Experience in the defense industry and an existing security clearance.
- Experience with CREO or similar CAD software.
- Experience with Windchill or other PLM systems.
- Experience designing, manufacturing, or testing valves, pressure regulators, pressure switches, tanks, or transducers.
- Experience working with large component assemblies and integrating multiple critical subassemblies for rocket propulsion systems.
Compensation & Benefits
The California salary range is $92,500–$171,500, with final compensation depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic considerations.

Security Requirements
Because this position supports defense-related programs, the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance is required.
