About the role
Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Project Engineer within our Project Engineering department at our Coshocton Works facility. This role is responsible for managing engineering projects from design and procurement through installation and start-up of new or modified equipment and facilities. The Project Engineer works closely with operations, maintenance, contractors, and external vendors to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget, while providing technical support, maintaining infrastructure standards, and driving continuous improvement across plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage engineering projects including specifications for design, procurement, installation, and start-up of new or modified equipment and facilities.
- Provide engineering assistance to the plant’s Operations and Maintenance departments.
- Coordinate and manage the facility’s local infrastructure program to meet the company’s corporate Infrastructure standards and policies.
- Ensure accurate and timely project completion through effective supervision of outside engineering firms, fabricators, suppliers, vendors, and labor contractors.
- Assure contractor compliance with all safety regulations including on-site training, daily orientations, hot work permits, and confined space permits.
- Read, understand, and modify blueprints and schematics using computer-aided equipment and conventional drafting techniques.
- Index drawings and revisions, and maintain equipment and project files.
- Maintain awareness of all governmental safety regulations and plant policies to ensure equipment design, operation, and installation conforms to standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering field.
- Three (3) years of technical related engineering experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Ability to coordinate and execute multiple projects with minimal supervision within allotted time and budget.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and time management skills.
- Strong computer skills in office software applications, AutoCad, and Microsoft Project.
- Ability to work in a team environment with staff and support personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge in hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC.
- Knowledge of furnace combustion, boilers, and fire safety systems.
- Experience in development and implementation of Major Capital Projects in the steel industry.
- Project Management Certification (or willingness to obtain).
