Project Engineer

About the role

The Project Engineer bridges the boundaries between engineering and project management, leading the technical activities with the Engineering, Procurement, and Installation teams. This position serves as the primary technical point of contact for the project team and reports to the Project Manager.

Responsibilities

• Oversee costs, delivery schedule, quality, and targets for assigned systems (e.g., generator and auxiliaries, turbine and auxiliaries, penstock, gates, electrical power systems).
• Participate in creating the overall time schedule and work breakdown structure.
• Create Purchase Order Requisitions and participate in supplier negotiations.
• Determine general scope and manage the supply process from design conceptualization to component delivery.
• Validate and approve supplier production schedules.
• Handle technical clarifications with customers and suppliers.
• Organize design review meetings and manufacturing kick-offs.
• Elaborate, collect, and assess required documentation; veto technical dispositions in case of deviations (cost, schedule, quality).
• Assemble and submit technical deliverables.
• Organize and facilitate meetings regarding technical activities.
• Ensure stakeholders correctly interpret technical specifications and contract-based expectations.
• Consolidate opinions to define technical strategy and supply plans in collaboration with the Project Manager and Procurement Department.
• Participate in the selection, negotiations, and technical discussions of main suppliers and sub-contractors.
• Ensure engineering deliverables and supply deliveries meet on-time and quality criteria for assigned systems.
• Follow up on Non-Conformances and Change Management with customers, vendors, and engineering.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager to analyze, define, and implement contingency plans for project deviations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• Experience in hydroelectricity, energy-producing equipment, or related design and manufacturing activities.
• Experience in technical coordination of engineering activities and subcontracting.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
