About the role
The Project Engineer supports the successful delivery of complex commercial construction projects by coordinating information, documentation, and field activities across all stakeholders. This role partners closely with the Project Manager, field teams, trade partners, and support departments to maintain accurate project records, support scheduling and cost control, and ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient execution. The position offers exposure to a wide variety of project types and provides a strong foundation for long-term growth in construction project management.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Project Manager to coordinate and distribute project information to internal teams, clients, trade partners, and vendors.
- Maintain real-time tracking and updates of contract documents, logs, and project records to ensure all stakeholders work from current information.
- Prepare, maintain, and present status reports for RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation.
- Develop detailed scopes of work for bid packages and subcontractor procurement to ensure clarity and alignment with project requirements.
- Issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and proactively follow up with trade partners and vendors to obtain competitive and timely pricing.
- Aid in project scheduling and updates using Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling techniques and project controls tools.
- Document and track field quality control activities to verify compliance with project standards, drawings, and specifications.
- Support change management efforts by preparing cost reports, estimates, and related documentation for review and approval.
- Establish, organize, and maintain project files, quality records, and documentation systems in an orderly and accessible manner.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding project goals, responding proactively to needs, and consistently delivering value.
- Develop and maintain industry relationships with trade partners, vendors, and other stakeholders to support business growth and future project opportunities.
- Participate in jobsite coordination meetings and contribute to project planning, issue resolution, and schedule coordination.
- Coordinate with equipment planning teams to manage the delivery, staging, and movement of equipment and bulk materials on the jobsite.
- Partner with accounting teams to prepare, review, and track project billings and support accurate financial reporting.
- Assist with the preparation, issuance, and administration of contracts and purchase orders for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Utilize construction management software such as CMiC, Bluebeam, and Procore for field reporting, labor tracking, document control, and equipment management.
- Review and refine self-perform scopes of work to improve clarity, efficiency, and execution for internal crews.
- Collect, analyze, and report productivity metrics for self-perform labor crews to support performance improvement and cost control.
- Contribute to the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of construction projects through effective planning, clear communication, and proactive field support.
Essential Skills
- Strong understanding of construction project management principles and jobsite operations.
- Experience with project management and construction management in a commercial construction environment.
- Experience with CPM scheduling techniques and project controls.
- Prioritization and time management skills.
- Ability to manage project financials, forecasting, and change management processes.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to assess risks, opportunities, and long-term project impacts.
- Ability to delegate effectively, set priorities, and hold teams accountable for results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with clients, field teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, safety, and business development teams.
- Proficiency with industry-standard construction software and Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of commercial construction and trades, including coordination with multiple disciplines.
- Understanding of construction contract documents, drawings, and project specifications.
- Basic knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented approach with proactive problem-solving skills and a focus on project support.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 2–6 years of experience with a general contractor, construction management firm, or trade contractor, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant construction experience.
- Proven ability to achieve individual and organizational goals while delivering high-quality results.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to anticipate needs, provide value, and respond with urgency.
- Adaptability and the ability to work effectively within changing processes, systems, and project requirements.
- Ability to collaborate successfully in a team-oriented environment.
- OSHA 10-Hour Certification.
- Experience with CMiC, Bluebeam, and Procore for construction management is highly beneficial.
