Project Engineer
This role focuses on designing and developing custom sheet metal and structural components for commercial and industrial applications. You will transform customer requirements into manufacturable designs using SolidWorks, ensuring accurate documentation, bills of materials, and a smooth transition into production. The position offers the opportunity to manage projects from concept through completion while contributing to high-visibility, custom-engineered solutions in a collaborative, hands-on environment.
Responsibilities
- Review customer requirements to understand functional needs and design intent for sheet metal and structural assemblies.
- Develop mechanical designs and variations for fabricated components in SolidWorks.
- Create and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) for materials, hardware, and assemblies.
- Coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely identification of required materials.
- Release finalized designs with complete drawings, models, and documentation.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs are practical and optimized for fabrication.
- Work with sales, marketing, and quality teams to align designs with customer and internal standards.
- Support product development through design updates, improvements, and new configurations.
- Assist project management by tracking progress and coordinating tasks from concept to release.
- Use EPDM or similar tools to manage files, revisions, and engineering documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, fabrication processes, and product performance.
- Work hands-on with production teams to validate design intent and understand fabrication methods.
- Maintain strong attention to detail across all design work and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; candidates with an associate degree must have at least 3+ years of relevant design experience.
- Minimum of 6+ months of SolidWorks design experience with sheet metal or structural steel components.
- At least 6+ months of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably involving sheet metal fabrication.
- Fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering principles related to sheet metal, metal fabrication, and structural design.
- Ability to perform mechanical design for sheet metal products and structural components in a 3D CAD environment.
- Basic project management experience, including supporting projects from initial concept through production release.
- Strong attention to detail in design, documentation, and communication.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year. Individual compensation within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
