Project Director, Construction

The Project Director, Construction (H) manages and oversees a portfolio of projects within the UHealth Vertical, reporting directly to the AVP of IPD. The Project Director, Construction (H) focuses on delivering healthcare construction projects using the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model, ensuring alignment with UHealth’s strategic objectives and maintaining high standards of quality, budget, and schedule adherence, and promotes a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the project teams.
Core Responsibilities
- Oversees a portfolio of IPD projects, providing strategic direction and supervision of Project Managers (PMs) and Project Coordinators (PCs).
- Implements and maintains program management processes and controls that ensure project alignment with organizational goals.
- Led project teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Covers project scope, objectives, and deliverables, driving integrated solutions, optimizing outcomes for all involved parties.
- Manages the pre-development phase, including site selection, feasibility studies, concept design, and budgeting.
- Oversees bid and permit management processes, ensuring timely and compliant submissions.
- Ensures robust budget and schedule management across all projects, identifying and mitigating risks proactively.
- Reviews and approves payment applications, ensuring alignment with project progress and contractual terms.
- Leads change management processes, ensuring all modifications are documented, approved, and communicated effectively.
- Coordinates the integration of Medical Equipment, FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment), and IT into the design process, ensuring they align with project objectives and standards.
- Implements Target Value Design (TVD) to achieve cost and value optimization in project outcomes.
- Facilitates the design review process, ensuring stakeholder engagement and timely approvals.
- Coordinates efforts for Requests for Information (RFIs) and issue resolution to maintain project momentum.
- Oversees submittal reviews, ensuring compliance with design intent, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensures quality assurance through regular field inspections (with appropriate expert consultants as needed), addressing any deviations from project plans or standards.
- Mentors and develops PMs and PCs, fostering a culture of high performance and professional growth.
- Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
- Ensures employees are trained in controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Core Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- Minimum 10 years of experience in healthcare
- Knowledge of business and management principles
- Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations
- Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan
- Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others
- Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others
