About the role
The purpose of this job is to direct and control the day-to-day field operations for the company on assigned projects. The project director may also participate in a wide range of additional functions related to overall management of the company, including business development, contract reviews, strategic planning, etc.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the sr. project manager on a large, complex project and may also have operational oversight for other assigned projects
- Reviews jobsite progress on assigned projects at regular intervals by attending the OAC meetings and meeting with the project manager, superintendent, and others assigned to the project
- Establishes the requirements and expectations for the project; reviews the safety manual and procedures with the project team; establishes the requirements for safety inspections and the use of Predictive Solutions; reviews accident reports and other documents dealing with overall safety practices
- Reviews startup details with the superintendents and project manager, assisting as necessary in expediting power and utility installations, office trailer placement, etc.
- Assumes an active role in the selection and placement of all hoisting equipment to include tower cranes, crawler cranes, personnel and equipment hoists, and other vertical transportation equipment
- Reviews the detailed planning and scheduling for each phase of the work or checks actual progress against the master construction schedules
- Inspects the project for overall quality; discusses problem areas with the superintendent and offers technical guidance when requested
- Reviews the performance of each major subcontractor for quality of work and adherence to the construction schedule; assists the superintendent with enforcement of quality standards and timely completions
- Reviews buyout activities, especially long lead time items that must be purchased or ordered near the beginning of the project; assists, in any way possible, to expedite material deliveries
- Reviews prime contract change orders, reviews and executes change orders and the impact they have on the construction schedule; ensures timely owner approval before work is initiated and assists in expediting owner approval when necessary
- Reviews costs for each line item for confirmation with the original budget estimate; investigates cost overruns early in the project and attempts to resolve cost problems before the percentage of completion is too high
- Establishes and maintains an ongoing liaison with officers and directors of various companies within the industry
- Takes an active role in business development; may lead such discussions and/or serve as a member of the Austin presentation team
- Engages current and potential stakeholders including government agencies, airline operators and contractors
- Reviews final cost estimates for a project before formal proposal is submitted and may suggest specific contract language in some instances
- Works with the corporate Risk Management department to insure that overall insurance requirements are met as well as insure compliance with subcontractor Risk Management
- Offers suggestions and recommendations impacting both the short-term and long-term goals and objectives of the company; actively participates in strategic planning and influences how specific goals will be achieved
- Assumes a leadership role in the career planning and development of project personnel, including project assignments, merit increases, promotions, and decisions to promote hourly staff to salary, etc.; attempts to balance the needs of the individual with the needs of the company
- Reviews the job status report coming from the Performance Reporting System; notes major deviations from the plan and investigates the cause during periodic visits to the jobsite
- Create collaborative team environments to build high performing teams and future leaders
- Adapt to emerging technologies and sustainability practices especially as it relates to airport infrastructure
Requirements
- B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or relevant discipline strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 10 years of aviation construction experience with proven leadership in large-scale airport projects
- Expertise in terminal and concourse development, including passenger flow optimization
- Knowledge of processor (aka headhouse) structures for seamless airport operations
- Experience with Consolidated Rental Car Center (ConRAC) development and transportation logistics
- Deep understanding of landside and airside construction, including regulatory compliance
- Exceptional written, verbal and presentation communication skills
- Possess the ability to keep a professional demeanor while navigating complex negotiations and public relations
- Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment)
- Able to build and lead high performing teams at multiple projects concurrently
- Recognized as an industry leading subject matter expert
- Willingness to travel or relocate as required for project execution
