Project Director

About the role

Leading the greenfield development of the Baltimore Container Terminal in close liaison with the CTO and HQ teams in Geneva. Based in Baltimore, you will oversee the entire infrastructure development—from conceptual studies, environmental permitting, and engineering through tendering, construction, and start-up of operations.

Responsibilities

• Steer and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams (civil works, buildings, electrical infrastructure, dredging, grid connection, social and environmental action plans) to deliver the facility on time, within budget, and to shareholder and financial-institution requirements.
• Manage project implementation in close collaboration with company department managers and holding-company support teams.
• Ensure adherence to project schedule and milestones; keep key stakeholders timely updated on progress.
• Coordinate all project resources according to the plan.
• Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate project risks.
• Obtain necessary input from internal and external functional experts (design, construction, legal, environmental, operational permits) throughout the project cycle.
• Facilitate integration of civil works completion with operational and commercial readiness.
• Prepare and update project documentation, corporate reports, and presentations, including lender reporting.
• Ensure business plan and budget are updated in a timely manner.

Requirements

• At least 15 years of experience managing complex infrastructure development projects in the US/Canada, preferably with a major civil engineering contractor or as a project developer on large infrastructure projects.
• Proven leadership capabilities and ability to navigate and influence multidisciplinary stakeholders.
• Strong contract-negotiation skills and experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, contractors, and government officials.
• Experience managing a variety of contractors and work packages; EPC experience and design-engineering management are assets.
• Ability to coordinate tasks and resources, perform rigorous planning, and assess project risks; known for taking initiative and corrective action.
• Affinity with project controls and management procedures to ensure projects meet specifications and budget.
• Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to match technical expertise with commercial business sense.
• Strong sense of responsibility and highest ethical standards.
• Excellent command of English, both verbal and written.
