Project Director

Hours: Full Time - 35 Hours

About the role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings is seeking a Project Director for the Capital Program Delivery program in the Police Unit. The selected candidate will be assigned a portfolio of complex capital projects throughout the five boroughs, including but not limited to design/bid/build, design/build, priority, and emergency projects. The Project Director will report directly to the Unit’s Deputy Director and Program Director, managing all project phases including scoping, initiation, design, procurement, construction, and post-construction.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead project and site meetings.
• Liaise and collaborate with DDC support units and City Agencies, including sponsors/providers and regulatory approvers.
• Manage the performance and deliverables of all vendors, including design consultants, commissioning agents, special inspectors, construction managers, and contractors.
• Utilize all Agency resources to ensure projects meet DDC’s Commitment Plan and KPI objectives.
• Maintain comprehensive project history files and project information tracking systems.
• Develop and maintain project schedules.
• Prepare thorough, accurate, and timely project correspondence and reports.
• Develop and maintain complete project accounting records and process all vendor payments in a timely manner.
• Participate in and champion the development of new Agency initiatives, process improvements, and mentorship opportunities.

Requirements

• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience managing and/or inspecting one or more construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 for each of the five years.
• OR one year of the experience described above and a baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology, or construction management from an accredited college or university.
• OR one year of the experience described above and a valid license as a professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect.
• OR a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and a combination of at least two years of the experience described above and the education described above to equal a total of five years of education and experience.
• Matriculation in an undergraduate college degree program as described above may substitute for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits for one year of satisfactory full-time experience, up to a maximum of three years.
• Candidates must specify for each construction project: a description, the time period worked, the type of work performed, and the money allotted for the project.
• A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for the duration of employment. Candidates with moving violations, license suspension, or an accident record may be disqualified.

Qualifications for Assignment Levels

• Level II: In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, candidates must have one additional year of satisfactory full-time experience working in Assignment Level I or one additional year of the experience described in the primary requirements.
• Level III: In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, candidates must have two additional years of satisfactory full-time experience working in Construction Project Manager Assignment Levels I and II, or two additional years of the experience described in the primary requirements, and must possess a valid New York State motor vehicle driver license.

• Strong computer, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
• Familiarity with securing approvals and sign-offs from regulatory agencies such as DOB and FDNY.
• Experience with multiple project delivery methodologies.

Pay

$83,743.00 – $107,412.00
