Project Designer

About the role

The Project Designer will be responsible for guiding projects from schematic design through construction documents, applying strong technical and BIM skills, using graphic storytelling to advance project scope, and collaborating with teams and clients to deliver sustainable, human-centered design.

Responsibilities

• Understands and consistently executes all aspects of the design process and project complexities to proactively contribute to the overall success of the team while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design.
• Prepares schematic designs that optimize design solutions and plans with responsibility for presentation drawings, models, and narratives.
• Understands overall project goals and constraints, including client values, construction and design budget limitations, and schedule requirements.
• Evaluates design alternatives based on site and code requirements.
• Applies knowledge of building technology, building materials, construction methods, costs, and code to the design process.
• Understands and responds to technical implications and design decisions.
• Prepares client presentation packages, external publications, and award submissions.
• Participates in marketing opportunities and develops successful client relationships for continuing business.
• Uses graphic storytelling to advance the project delivery and scope.
• Reviews work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
• Participates and collaborates in internal design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups and external community engagements.
• Demonstrates strong and effective communication and direction which inspires high team performance and design ideas.
• Mentors staff.
• Collaborates effectively with partners and consultants throughout the schematic and design development phases.

Requirements

• 8-10+ years of professional experience in architecture or related field.
• Preferred Professional Licensure.

Qualifications

• Proficient in BIM and Building Codes.
• Experience with Site Analysis and Preliminary Design Studies.
• Knowledge of Contract Documents and Field Measurements.
• Understanding of Life Safety Requirements and Construction Contract Administration.
• Strong Graphic Storytelling Skills.
• Advanced Knowledge of 2D/3D Production Software.
• Experience with Conceptual Modeling Tools like Rhino and Grasshopper.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
• Experience with Visualization Tools like Enscape and VRay.
• Skills in Physical Modeling Tools like 3D Printing and Laser Cutting.
• Experience with Presentation Tools like InDesign and Photoshop.
• Experience with Environmental Analysis Software like Ladybug and Climate Studio.
• LEED GA within 6 months of hire.
• Active involvement in AXP.
• Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related discipline.

Skills

• Proficiency in 2D/3D production software.
• Advanced Revit skills.
• Experience with Rhino and Grasshopper.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
