About the role

NIUVT is an innovative academic, industry, and government partnership conducting applied research projects at the University of Connecticut and the University of Rhode Island. This role supports faculty in planning, organizing, and coordinating grant and contract administration for multiple applied research projects to ensure successful completion and future growth. The institute operates in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with opportunities for innovation, requiring meticulous attention to detail and adherence to Department of Defense (DOD) research security requirements for controlled unclassified work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project master operating documents and tracking spreadsheets with close attention to detail, including maintaining project-specific folders and documentation.
  • Enforce university standards for research security and cybersecurity, customizing processes and procedures for NIUVT faculty and students to meet these requirements.
  • Follow up to ensure faculty and students comply with security requirements and collaborate with university research security and IT offices.
  • Ensure all contract and deliverable milestones (e.g., interim and final reports) are met for partners and sponsors.
  • Plan and execute administrative tasks for technical research group meetings with NIUVT partners at a controlled level, ensuring strict adherence to research security procedures.
  • Collaborate with academic NIUVT partners to plan and execute bi-annual program review meetings, ensuring strict adherence to research security procedures.
  • Develop tools and practices to facilitate collaboration between academic, industry, and government partners while minimizing risk.
  • Manage and communicate new processes and procedures to NIUVT faculty and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the NIUVT fiscal and administrative team to onboard new student researchers each semester.
  • Assist faculty in compiling and updating Technology Control and Security Plans (TCSP) and Export-Controlled and Classified Information Certification (EEC) with UConn and NIUVT personnel.
  • Participate in research project kick-off and close-out activities with fiscal coordinators at URI and UConn to ensure timely completion of technology transition requirements.
  • Organize faculty and student NIUVT refresher meetings each semester and conduct informal drop-in sessions or office hours to support research and compliance.
  • Coordinate with UConn research security and NIUVT leadership to ensure faculty complete and adhere to Technology Control and Security Plans (TCSP).
  • Attend regular meetings with NIUVT partners, including academic, industry, and government stakeholders.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage and track all submissions for publication review.
  • Build relationships with faculty and students to foster collaboration opportunities for future NIUVT work.
  • Stay updated on current NIUVT research and identify synergies or opportunities for faculty within the Navy.
  • Maintain SharePoint and materials for student and faculty compliance and training.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and three to four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills within large or complex programs and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Willingness and ability to hold or obtain a DOD security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel within the New England region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Five or more years of related experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Data management experience and coding proficiency to automate and manage data.
  • Experience working with the Department of Defense.
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty.
  • Experience with university operations and university-based research.

Pay

Expected salary range: $60,416 to $78,541. Final salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s background and experience.
