Project Controller

Responsibilities

• Guide projects through the full budget process, from approved scope and initial planning through closeout, while monitoring variances and resolving financial deviations.
• Create and maintain companywide cost control practices, including tolerance limits and escalation protocols that help identify margin risk early.
• Analyze declining margins, unexpected cost increases, and unauthorized scope growth, then work with operations leaders to implement practical corrective measures.
• Lead or support financial project reviews with senior regional leadership, project directors, and project managers to reinforce accountability for budget performance.
• Define and uphold job costing policies related to labor loading, equipment usage, subcontractor pricing, and indirect cost allocation across branches.
• Manage change order controls to ensure additional work is accurately priced, formally approved, and financially recovered before execution begins.
• Prepare clear financial summaries and supporting documentation that enable project stakeholders to make informed operational and commercial decisions.

Requirements

• Experience in project controls, cost management, accounting, or financial oversight within a project-based environment.
• Strong ability to review budgets, investigate variances, and translate financial findings into actionable recommendations.
• Knowledge of job costing principles, including labor burden, equipment costing, subcontractor markups, and indirect cost application.
• Demonstrated skill in leading budget discussions with project managers and senior operations leadership.
• Ability to support document control activities, including organizing, compiling, scanning, and maintaining project-related records.
• High attention to detail with the ability to enforce policies and maintain consistency across multiple projects or locations.
• Proficiency with financial reporting tools and standard business software used for project tracking and documentation.
