About the role

AHL, formerly Architects Hawaii Ltd., is seeking a Project Architect with retail experience to join their team. This position involves management, team, and consultant coordination, and oversight of production and design of fast-paced full build-out and tenant-improvement retail projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manages technical direction, coordination, and production of retail projects including non-retail work as office workloads may change.
  • Oversees design development and construction documents.
  • Covers design of the project with both outside consultants and in-house project teams.
  • Coordinates all design and technical details.
  • Designs and develops technical design concepts, plans, elevations, sections, and details.
  • Manages the preparation of design drawings by other designers.
  • Reviews documents for code compliance.
  • Affords assistance with design and production relating to more complicated areas of construction documents and aids in solutions to general architectural problems.
  • Acts as job captain in the absence of this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university required with an architecture degree or focus preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years substantial experience in all phases of architecture, including three (3) years of substantial project architect and management experience of retail projects.
  • Architectural registration required.
  • State of Hawaii registration preferred, other states considered. LEED Accreditation preferred.
  • Candidates on active pathway to architectural licensure will also be considered.
  • Substantial knowledge of retail project systems and procedures for design, management, and production of construction and design development documents.
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural planning, detailing, drafting, construction materials and methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of related engineering principles and building codes.
  • Proficiency in Revit and a working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • 3D software program experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
