Project Architect / Project Manager - Licensed Architect
About the Role
Marx Okubo, a trusted national architecture/engineering/construction consulting firm, is seeking a Licensed Project Architect / Project Manager at a Senior Associate level to join our team in San Francisco. This hybrid role requires working in the office on Mondays and Tuesdays, with site visits and remote work for the remainder of the week. The ideal candidate will lead architectural engineering repair design teams on technically complex projects across diverse building types, including multi-family, office, retail, industrial, hospitality, higher education, and governmental facilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and execute project documentation and contract administration across all phases of assigned projects.
- Serve as the Architect of Record for all project-related documentation prepared under your supervision and direction.
- Achieve client project goals, including budget and schedule adherence.
- Consult with clients to determine function and spatial requirements, and prepare information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.
- Ensure a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to minimize risk and scope gaps, and implement the right solution.
- Initiate and maintain contact with internal team members, consultants, and clients for clarification, coordination, and negotiation of critical issues.
- Prepare schedules, budgets, and work plans during all project phases.
- Provide leadership, including professional development coaching and mentoring of staff, and collaborate with Technical Directors to improve team member skills.
- Participate in client presentations, marketing, and business development opportunities.
- Travel to sites as needed, locally and regionally (25-50%).
Qualifications
- 10-15 years of architectural practice with prior project management experience across complex projects and all phases through post-occupancy.
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture; master’s degree preferred.
- Licensed professional architect within the State of California; NCARB registration preferred.
- PMP, LEED, or other sustainability accreditation is preferred.
- Design experience specifically for building repair as an architect of record on technically complex commercial projects.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong technical knowledge and architecture detailing skills.
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Proven leadership skills in organizing and leading multidisciplinary teams and consultants.
- Experience coordinating with Owners and contractors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, and Box; experience with Primavera or Quire is a plus.
- Excellent public speaking, networking, and writing skills.
- Experience with California DSA process for education projects and HCAI process (formerly OSHPD) for healthcare is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move through construction and existing building sites over rough terrain.

- Operate a computer and other related office equipment.

- Travel approximately 25-50% of the time, both in and out of state.
