Kahler Slater is seeking a registered Project Architect who is enthusiastic about leading technical solutions for our Higher Education projects. Our ideal candidate is passionate about the technical needs of higher education, sports, and cultural projects with experience developing and detailing complex projects.

About the Role

As a Project Architect, you will contribute to our robust national portfolio and mid-Atlantic clientele, directly impacting our ability to achieve continued market growth. You will work with a team aligned with our open and flexible culture that encourages individual initiative and collaboration, building trusting relationships within the team and across Kahler Slater.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in leading the planning and design phases of significant higher education, sports, recreation, and wellness projects, generating and translating design concepts into final architectural solutions.
  • Support Project Manager in project management tasks, focusing on schedule, staffing, and budget.
  • Coordinate the project’s design intent with technical project requirements.
  • Direct and manage the internal and external design team from initial planning through construction administration.
  • Inspire, motivate, and lead the project team in client service, design approach, and project delivery.
  • Establish an environment that encourages experimentation, innovation, and design creativity.
  • Contribute to a high level of energy and enthusiasm in the firm, fostering a spirit of collaborative problem solving and design excellence.
  • Represent the team with multiple education, sports, and culture clients, industry partners, contractors, consultants, and public authorities.
  • Mentor junior staff members.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as an architectural professional with experience in higher education, sports, and/or civic/culture markets.
  • Experience with public and private higher education clients/projects preferred.
  • Professional degree in Architecture.
  • Architectural registration is required.
  • 4+ years of Revit production experience, and proficiency utilizing Revit and automation technologies.
  • Experience in the selection of building materials and systems.

Working Relationships

  • Report to Team Lead and Project Lead.
  • Collaborate with other design and project team members.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a professional, collaborative, creative, open office environment. Occasional travel is expected as it relates to servicing clients and professional development.

Completion of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Construction & Professional Services Manual (CPSM) Webinar and prior Division of Engineering & Buildings (DEB) project experience preferred.
