About the role

As a Project Architect, you will be the key point person on a team working under the direction of the Project Manager to deliver projects. You will have strong design and technical abilities, performing in a self-directed manner across all aspects of the design process, including programming, preparation of design and construction documents, and construction administration. You will lead the creation of Schematic Design, Design Development, and Contract Documents, utilizing Revit and Sketch-Up for model building, renderings, and ensuring all work aligns with established budgets, schedules, and programmatic requirements.

You will oversee all technical and design aspects of projects, including investigation, evaluation, and development of design solutions. Responsibilities include day-to-day project leadership, design coordination with consultants, internal and external team members, and organization of construction documentation. You will work closely with the QA/QC team, mentor junior staff, and support the Project Manager in maintaining project schedules and tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Design:
    • Independently develop design studies, concepts, and sketches for approval with the Project Manager or Project Executive.
    • Prepare documentation for Schematic Design and Design Development.
    • Exercise creative judgment and design skills in preparing client presentation materials, including design sketches, renderings, models, and graphics.
    • Uphold firm principles, including strong communication, teambuilding, excellence in design, quality control, and sustainability.
  • Technical:
    • Prepare accurate, coordinated, and complete Contract Documents, including plans, details, sections, elevations, and schedules (minimum of 5 completed sets).
    • Oversee amendments, addenda, and bulletins as required, supporting the Project Manager.
    • Lead and prepare revisions and technical alternatives for review by the Project Manager.
    • Perform tasks in accordance with the C3S Project Delivery Manual.
  • Management:
    • Organize, plan, and execute tasks independently.
    • Understand project workflow, scheduling, and project management.
    • Manage the work of project consultants, including document review, communications, and coordination efforts.
    • Coordinate project work with the QA/QC program.
    • Lead and manage the work of others on the project team, demonstrating strong leadership.
    • Maintain positive and proactive relationships with clients and consultants.
  • Actively participate in business development opportunities.
  • Serve as an emerging leader within the company.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience in architecture, interiors, and/or construction.
  • Professional Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited Architecture or Interior Design School.
  • Strong experience and demonstrated proficiency in all design phases, including a minimum of five completed projects from Schematic Design through Construction Documents and Construction Administration.
  • Experience organizing and assembling construction documents; proven technical skills in detailing.
  • Superb communication skills with consultants, clients, and contractors; experience coordinating work of consulting engineers.
  • Technically skilled with strong experience using Revit and 3-D modeling software; BIM proficiency.
  • Strong organizational, teamwork, collaborative, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to run internal and consultant meetings, and prepare and coordinate project presentations.
  • Expert understanding of architectural and/or interior design principles and theory associated with project design and construction materials and methods.
  • Demonstrated strength in effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate a professional work ethic.
  • NCIDQ or ARE plus LEED Certification.
  • Ongoing professional growth in the design and construction industry.
  • A valid, unrestricted driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the firm’s liability insurance carrier.
