Project Architect

About the role

Matter Architecture Studio is a small, principal-led practice based in Hancock Park, Los Angeles. We build timeless homes and commercial environments rooted in craft, context, and the landscapes of California. Our work is values-driven; we care about what we put into the world, and that shows in how we detail, document, and deliver. We're intentionally lean, which means everyone here has real ownership over their work.

Responsibilities

• Run projects from pre-design through construction administration.
• Produce and oversee drawing sets.
• Coordinate the full consultant team.
• Lead client communication.
• Navigate Los Angeles permitting from first submittal to final approval.
• Work across every phase: due diligence, design, documentation, plan check, and CA.
• Own the outcome at each phase.

Requirements

• 5+ years at a design-focused firm, primarily on high-end custom residential.
• Licensed architect or actively pursuing licensure.
• Proficiency in Revit — required; experience in Rhino, Lumion, D5 or 3DS Max a plus.
• Deep familiarity with LADBS, LAMC, hillside ordinances (BHO/BMO), ZIMAS, CALGreen, etc.
• Experience taking projects through plan check, responding to corrections, and managing CAF.
• Full consultant coordination: Structural, MEP, Civil, Landscape, Lighting, Energy, Interiors, etc.
• Self-organized, detail-oriented, and accountable.

Schedule

Full-time, in-office position based in Hancock Park, with flexibility for one to two remote days per week.
