Project Accountant I
Key Responsibilities
- Manage project financials, including cost tracking, budget monitoring, and variance analysis.
- Cook with vendors and subcontractors to obtain and maintain Certificates of Insurance (COIs).
- Support the change order process, including documentation, cost analysis, and system updates.
- Perform project cost transfers and adjustments to ensure accurate job costing.
- Aid with procurement activities, including material sourcing, and vendor coordination.
- Utilize document management tools (e.g., DocuSign) to route, track, and store critical project documentation.
- Prepare and maintain project cost reports for Project Managers and leadership.
- Manage project billing, including preparation and submission of AIA billing documents.
- Track, prepare, and submit Accounts Payable (AP) payment requests, ensuring proper approvals and timely processing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Support month-end close activities related to project accounting.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Project Accounting Manager or Vice President of Accounting & Finance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).
- Solid understanding of job costing and project-based accounting principles.
- Knowledge and experience with AIA billing processes and documentation.
- Familiarity with OCIP (Owner-Controlled Insurance Program) and CCIP (Contractor-Controlled Insurance Program) requirements and compliance.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Viewpoint or similar platforms).
- Familiarity with construction or mechanical contracting industry practices is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English in an office environment.
