Additional Information About The Role

The Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurses provide high-quality care for patients experiencing acute medical conditions such as Pre and Post Lung Transplant, Pulmonary Hypertension, Ventilator dependent/weaning, and special drips while working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver timely and effective treatment. Our unit is supported by an Advanced Practice Nurse and multiple physician teams.

Acute Care Medicine

Acute Care Medicine manages patients with a full range of clinical issues-from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and a multitude of other conditions and diseases. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally, each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Role Purpose: Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
  • Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
