Programme Manager - Built Environment and Technical Construction

About the role

We are currently seeking a Programme Manager in Built Environment and Technical Construction to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Programme Manager, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

• Curriculum Leadership & Development - Lead and manage Construction and Built Environment programmes, including T Levels, Higher Technical Qualifications, apprenticeships, and Level 3-4 provision, ensuring curriculum design meets industry needs, local skills priorities, awarding body requirements, and Ofsted expectations.
• Quality Improvement & Learner Outcomes - Drive excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment, monitor performance data, lead self-assessment and quality improvement activities, and ensure high levels of retention, achievement, progression, and learner success.
• Employer Engagement & Partnership Development - Build and strengthen relationships with employers, universities, FE colleges, and industry stakeholders to support curriculum innovation, industry placements, higher-level progression pathways, and workforce development opportunities.
• Apprenticeships, Skills & Innovation - Develop and grow apprenticeship provision, work-based learning opportunities, and flexible skills programmes, including green skills, heritage construction, BIM/REVIT, CSCS, and employer-responsive commercial training.
• Leadership, Operations & Compliance - Lead and develop curriculum teams, manage budgets and resources, maintain industry-standard learning environments, oversee health & safety and COSHH compliance, support strategic planning, and ensure safeguarding, equality, diversity, and professional development requirements are fully met.

Responsibilities

Construction, Education & Industry Knowledge - Good understanding of Construction and Built Environment disciplines, including civil engineering, surveying, site management, design, and related construction trades, alongside knowledge of apprenticeships, T Levels, Level 3-4 provision, awarding body requirements, Ofsted expectations, and local skills priorities.

Curriculum Development & Quality Improvement - Ability to design, develop, and enhance curriculum provision that meets employer demand and industry needs, with experience or understanding of teaching, learning, assessment, self-assessment, quality assurance, and continuous improvement processes within Further Education.

Leadership, Performance & Operational Management - Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop teams, manage performance, make effective decisions, oversee budgets and resources, and contribute to the successful delivery and growth of curriculum provision.

Industry Innovation & Data Analysis - Knowledge of emerging construction sectors and technologies, including BIM/REVIT, green skills, and heritage construction, with the ability to analyse performance data relating to retention, achievement, and progression to inform improvement and strategic planning.

Communication, Relationship Building & Professionalism - Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively in customer-focused environments, collaborate with employers and educational partners, and build positive professional relationships.

Safeguarding, Compliance & Flexibility - Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, health and safety, and professional boundaries, alongside a willingness to continuously develop skills and knowledge, travel across sites, and work flexibly to meet organisational needs.

Benefits

Salary is between £41,400 and £47,971 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 35 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
