About the Role

Eastern Washington University and the College of Health Science and Public Health invite applications for a Program Specialist 2 for the Wellness and Movement Sciences Department. This is a classified, part-time (50% FTE), 12-month position beginning as soon as possible. The individual selected will work on-site and actively contribute to a collaborative and collegial office environment.

The Program Specialist 2 coordinates program services and resources for multiple programs, including undergraduate programs in Exercise Science, Health & Physical Education, Lifestyle Medicine, and Recreation Management, as well as graduate programs in Athletic Training and Exercise Science. The department also houses minors in Coaching, Emergency Medical Services, Experiential Training and Development, Gero Kinesiology, Sport Management, and Therapeutic Recreation.

The role oversees day-to-day program operations, resolves problems within assigned scope of authority, and plans, organizes, and coordinates operations as delegated by the department chair. The supervisor for this position is the department chair of Wellness and Movement Sciences (WAMS).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day program operations, providing information, resolving problems, and responding to inquiries from students, families, faculty, staff, and the external community (50% of time).
  • Provide support to departmental faculty.
  • Provide clerical support for departmental activities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
  • At least two years of administrative or managerial experience, including responsibilities for program operations beyond entry-level work (e.g., developing, overseeing, organizing, implementing, evaluating outcomes, and modifying tasks).
  • Experience supporting multiple individuals with overlapping needs and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (written skills evaluated via application materials).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and foster working relationships within and external to the department.
  • Competency in computer skills, including MS Office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, records maintenance), with a willingness to learn emerging platforms (e.g., Google Drive, Adobe Suite).
  • Ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach sensitive to the diverse needs of students, faculty, administrators, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with or understanding of undergraduate and graduate programs within Wellness and Movement Sciences.
  • Familiarity with university software programs such as Navigate, CLSS, Banner, Concur, Tableau, Watermark Insights, or WordPress.
  • Demonstrated experience using social media platforms to promote and advance programs or initiatives.

Pay

Salary range: $23,418 (minimum) to $26,976 (maximum). Placement within the range depends on qualifications, education, experience, and skills.

Schedule

Part-time (20 hours per week), typically Monday to Friday, 9 am – 1 pm, with flexibility depending on program needs and approval.
