About the role

The University of Houston Law Center is seeking a Program Manager 1 or 2 to oversee the Pre-Law Pipeline Programs. These preparatory initiatives equip first-generation undergraduate students, aspiring first-generation law students, and individuals from low-income backgrounds with essential information, tools, and training to develop a successful law school application. Programs include LSAT instruction, introductory law school classes, law-related internships, and professional development training.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Pre-Law Pipeline Programs, including supervision of staff, student workers, programs, or processes.
  • Plan and develop procedures for administering the program, ensuring adherence to budget and university policies.
  • Provide guidance to subordinate staff and evaluate performance.
  • Prepare abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other documentation.
  • Review budgets and activities, prepare ad hoc reports, and administer grants and related communications.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures; may serve as property custodian.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as program inquiries, phone calls, and calendaring in a highly detailed and organized manner.
  • Work independently, take initiative, and manage urgent department matters as they arise.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, work-study students, and graduate student workers.
  • Manage and supervise a small team, including delegating tasks and ensuring prompt completion of assignments.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations (virtually and in-person) for prospective program participants.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in etiquette, attire, and communication.

Requirements

  • Program Manager 1: No prior experience required.
  • Program Manager 2: Minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.
  • Education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline; or basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline.
  • Knowledge normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related four-year degree or equivalent in-depth specialized training.

Skills

  • Familiar with creating and working with budgets; willing to learn the University of Houston Law Center’s budgeting system.
  • Proficient with Microsoft platforms (Word, Outlook, Forms, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Drive.
  • Skilled with Zoom and virtual collaboration tools.
  • Creative and resourceful in developing program management concepts (e.g., surveys, polls, engagement assessments).
  • Ability to manage and supervise a small team and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and deadlines.
