About the role
The position is responsible for assisting the Stormwater Administrator in overseeing the Stormwater Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The position manages department Senior Project Managers and Project Managers in general engineering activities related to the planning, budgeting, and design of drainage projects throughout the Marion County Stormwater District.
Responsibilities
- Affirms and assists in establishing policies and procedures for Stormwater Engineering department to streamline operations.
- Serves as a project manager and provides staff supervision and technical assistance related to the development of planning documents, engineering plans, and construction specifications and the preparation of construction cost estimates.
- Performs QA/QC of plans, specifications and construction cost estimates developed by others.
- Collaborates with DPW project managers to ensure proposed stormwater improvements align with the Stormwater Design and Construction Specification Manual.
- Attends and supports public meetings as needed.
- Affirms and assists in ensuring that all design activity is performed on schedule, within budgetary limits, and in accordance with current statutes, ordinances, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Affirms and assists in updating documents such as the Flood Response Plan, Dam Emergency Response Plan, etc.
- Works cooperatively with consultants and staff to complete projects.
- Coordinates with DPW Stormwater Operations team to provide guidance on maintenance of infrastructure, assist staff in responding to drainage concerns reported by operations or citizens.
Requirements
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Indiana.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or related engineering field and 5 years of experience working on municipal projects.
- Extensive knowledge of City, State, and federal policies and specifications as they relate to design/construction of municipal infrastructure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience leading an engineering team including supervising/directing tasks and performing QA/QC.
- At least 2 years of experience managing municipal projects.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field.
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in Civil Engineering or experience working on municipal projects.
- Experience with CAD desirable.
