About the role

The Program Manager, Makerspace is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and assessment of educational programming and engagement activities within the Cable Makerspace. This position fosters innovation, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration through workshops, events, mentorship opportunities, and curricular partnerships. The Program Manager works with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners to maximize participation and educational impact.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development & Community Engagement (50%)
    • Develops and delivers a portfolio of educational programming including workshops, events, training sessions, competitions, and mentorship opportunities.
    • Creates and supports co-curricular learning experiences that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, design thinking, and hands-on learning.
    • Builds relationships with students, faculty, alumni, and campus partners to expand makerspace engagement and participation.
    • Promotes an accessible, collaborative, and supportive learning environment.
    • Coordinates marketing and outreach efforts for makerspace programs and events.
  • Curricular Support & Academic Partnerships (25%)
    • Collaborates with faculty to support project-based learning and course-related makerspace activities.
    • Assists with the development of tutorials, demonstrations, and instructional resources that support coursework.
    • Identifies opportunities to integrate makerspace resources into academic programs and student learning experiences.
    • Serves as a liaison between academic departments and makerspace resources.
  • Strategic Planning & Program Assessment (15%)
    • Assesses program effectiveness through participation metrics, surveys, and stakeholder feedback.
    • Recommends improvements to educational offerings and engagement strategies.
    • Identifies opportunities to expand makerspace programming and services.
    • Supports long-term planning efforts related to makerspace growth and utilization.
  • Administrative Coordination (10%)
    • Coordinates program scheduling, registration, communications, and event logistics.
    • Assists with budget tracking, reporting, and program documentation.
    • Coordinates student workers supporting programming activities.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2–3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational programs, workshops, or events.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of makerspace environments, innovation programs, engineering education, or experiential learning initiatives.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a higher education makerspace, innovation center, entrepreneurship program, or similar environment.
  • Experience supporting project-based learning or experiential education.
  • Experience supervising student employees, interns, or volunteers.
  • Familiarity with prototyping, fabrication, design thinking, or maker technologies.

Pay

$29.06 – $36.37 per hour
