Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of program management, for specific programs, as outlined by the General Manager or designated person, up to and including prototypes, pre-production samples, production start-up, customer launch, and monitoring the overall program throughout production.
- Responsible for all engineering changes to your specific program.
- Ensure that the product is being manufactured to all engineering/customer and manufacturing specifications.
- In case of a quality concern, you will be consulted and involved in resolving the issue at hand.
- Ensure that all drawings, etc., are up to date, making sure that all customer requirements and specifications are met.
- Keep the communication lines open between the various departments, including production, tool room quality assurance, and engineering departments. Communicate with associates at other Multimatic Divisions, as necessary.
- Keep Management informed on a regular basis as to the status of the program that are directly related to you. Bring any critical items on the program to Management's attention immediately.
- Act as liaison between customer and company.
- Be involved and provide technical support on all product launches both within the company and at the customer.
- Follow up on correspondence with the customer either verbally and/or in writing concerning all aspects of the project.
- Investigate, analyze, and present cost saving proposals to management and then to customer.
- Be involved in any presentations made to the customer.
- Ensure all correspondence pertaining to project is tracked and distributed accordingly.
- Investigate and keep abreast of new state of the art technologies, which may enhance the profitability of the company.
- Perform engineering and manufacturing feasibility studies.
- Prepare internal quotes for new/existing programs and all engineering changes, submit for review/approvals, prepare customer breakdowns and review for completeness.
- Analyze rejected quotes for improvements for future quotes, complete and act upon quote vs. actual comparisons.
- Aid in preparation of quotes and work with purchasing in procuring quotes for current and future cost saving proposals.
- Establish program timing parameters and ensure schedules are maintained.
- Analyze and assist in tooling and manufacturing process development for opportunities to improve costs and increase inventory turnovers.
- Work with Process Engineer and related department managers/supervisors to plan and implement new or revised process flows for improving plant layout and efficiencies.
- Provide direction to Continuous Improvement Team (C.I.T.) by establishing goals and timing schedules to meet objectives. Review all projects with team and General Manager.
- Participate and follow up on future business opportunities.
- Aid in the procuring and sourcing of tooling and equipment for new programs.
- Absorb and ensure that all tooling/equipment complies with the company's and customer's specifications, standards, and expectations.
- Participate in VAVE workshops prior to product launch and after Job 1. Work as a team to establish measurement indicators for cost improvements, efficiencies, etc.
- Dedicate your efforts towards maximizing the profitability of the company.
- Maintain the confidentiality of the company and its business.
- Participate in and provide expert advice to "Employee Involvement Teams."
- Aid in meeting or exceeding all objectives/requirements of the business plan.
- Maintain good employee relations.
- Observe all company safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure a high standard of business ethics is maintained.
- Work in compliance with ISO 14001 / TS16949 standards.
- Will work in compliance with all legislative requirements of the OHSA and will be accountable for specific Health & Safety responsibilities, as outlined under “Safety & Environmental Responsibilities – Office & Production Employees.
- Ensure that customer contact is maintained on a regular basis through personal visits to customer facility as required.
- Ensure that AGM/BDM is updated on a continuous basis regarding program status.
- Must be able to work independently; must present an image to customer of total company commitment, maintain ownership of program, and work effectively with others to co-ordinate all aspects of the job.
- Once aware of a product or process non-conformance, to stop further processing and inform area supervisor or manager responsible.
- Maintain due diligence in regard to environmental matters, minimize any potentially harmful accidents, and work in compliance with ISO 14001.
- Track program through impeccable maintenance of quote log, quote spreadsheet, feasibility forms, meeting minutes, task assignments, timelines, cost trackers, gate reviews, capital spending, tooling investment.
- Issue ECN’s and conduct kick-off meetings.
Education And/or Experience
- College or university degree in mechanical engineering, tool and die experience and/or tool and die design.
- Experience in either engineering or tooling with an automotive background.
- Automotive manufacturing experience is a must.
- Excellent problem-solving techniques required.
- Training in: SPC, DFMEA / PFMEA, GD&T, APQP & PPAP, Effective Problem Solving & 8D, DOE.
- Familiarity with company and customer quality systems.
Reasoning Abilities
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Supervisory And Management Skills
- Ability to interact with all levels of employees in the organization.
- Excellent knowledge of the assembly, tool room, and press shop equipment.
- Computer skills in the areas of databases, spreadsheets, and word processing, program timelines.
- Drafting and drawing skills.
