Program Director - Future Healthcare Leaders
Position Summary
The Future Healthcare Leaders (FHL) Program Director is a key faculty (rank commensurate with experience) and administrative leader responsible for 50% teaching and 50% program oversight, development, mentoring, and retention of students enrolled in pre-professional, allied health, and healthcare pathway programs including nursing, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapy assistant, and other clinical or academic programs. Key responsibilities include teaching courses to support pre-professional preparation, managing daily program operations, providing individualized student mentoring and support, tracking and monitoring student progress, supporting student progression and retention, facilitating successful transitions from pre-professional to professional clinical phases and/or continued enrollment, collaborating on curriculum updates, assisting with assessment, and ensuring a high-quality educational experience.
Essential Functions
- Teach courses essential for pre-professional healthcare preparation
- Develop and deliver curriculum in disciplines supporting clinical and academic programs
- Audit student learning outcomes and provide academic feedback
- Provide strategic support services to facilitate a seamless transition from pre-professional to professional clinical programs and/or continued enrollment
- Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Future Healthcare Leaders program and related pre-professional/academic/healthcare pathway initiatives/events
- Provide individualized mentoring and academic coaching to pre-professional healthcare students, to include (but not limited to) providing guidance on clinical preparation and professional development
- Perform instructional duties as outlined in the Faculty job description and in accordance with the provisions of Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook
- Track and analyze pre-professional student retention, progression, and outcome data to coordinate timely interventions to support student success and persistence along with continuous program improvement
- Develop and implement co-curriculum programming, workshops, and mentoring opportunities that enhance student readiness for entering into the professional phase of their program, including any admission exams (TEAS, etc.)
- Act as primary advocate for students navigating healthcare career pathways
- Interview, train, develop, and support, full-time and adjunct faculty for pre-professional science courses according to the guidelines provided by Department Chair in accordance with the policies and procedures of the University
- Effectively aid in curriculum development, program assessment, and student advisement
- Support and execute University initiatives designed to achieve student completion rates as outlined in the University’s strategic planning
- Collaborate with the Department Chair concerning scheduling, sharing faculty, curriculum and other issues to support student learning and facilitate efficient resource use
- Support College-level initiatives and directives to maintain compliance with accreditation and state regulatory criteria and adhere to all University and campus policies and procedures. In the absence of a Department Chair, partner with the College Assistant Dean/Dean to oversee accreditation activities on their campus which are normally handled by the Department Chair
- Other responsibilities as determined by the Department Chair/College Dean
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of two years successful performance in a full-time university-level teaching role and prior management experience in higher education or in another organization within the program director’s discipline
- Master’s degree required with both significant field/professional/higher education experience and college-level teaching experience required
- Healthcare and science related areas of expertise preferred
- PhD (or other appropriate terminal degree) from a regionally accredited university strongly preferred
- Online teaching experience
- Knowledge of healthcare education pathways, professional school admissions processes
- Experience with computerized administrative systems
- Proficient with the use of standard office applications on personal computers
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations
