Program Coordinator for Womens, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (Part-Time)
About the Role
The Program Coordinator for Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) serves as an administrative assistant to the Director of WGSS and oversees event planning and operations for the Center for Women's Studies. This position acts as a key nexus between the Center and the WGSS Program, which work together to create knowledge and greater awareness across campus on issues related to gender and sexuality studies using an intersectional lens. The Program Coordinator also forges strong ties with the Office of Equity and Diversity, particularly during summer months when working on projects and initiatives that foster a diverse and inclusive Colgate community.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Director of WGSS in academic and Center programming, including the weekly brown bag series that invites scholars and activists to campus and incorporates presentations by Colgate faculty, staff, and students
- Supports curricular and co-curricular events and programming, including working with faculty to invite guest speakers; facilitating gender and sexuality focused events in collaboration with other departments, programs, and offices; and developing events and spaces for community reflection on major events
- Supports gender- and sexuality focused student-led groups on campus to develop their activities as needed
- Works collaboratively with offices such as the Office of Sustainability, the Office of Equity and Diversity, the ALANA Cultural Center, Haven, and LGBTQ Initiatives
- Serves on relevant campus committees, such as the Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence Coalition and Task Force on Equity and Diversity
- Manages student interns who provide vital work for The Center, including media outreach, posters, podcasts, health news and resources, and Center upkeep
- Ensures the bi-annual publication of the WGSS feminist journal Allegorical Athena, working with the English Department and the Department of Writing and Rhetoric
- Manages the creation and distribution of The Center's weekly newsletter, all social media accounts, event posters and other outreach campaigns
- Manages The Center's website
- Supports The Center's feminist podcast series
Qualifications
- Community-builder conversant in social justice issues through an intersectional lens
- Self-starter with capacity to work independently and as part of a team
- Proven ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects, tasks and priorities simultaneously
- Service-oriented mindset including positive attitude, follow through, and problem-solving
- Enthusiasm for learning new skills and taking on new assignments and challenges
- Proficiency with office productivity tools such as Google Workspace (especially Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar) and/or Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel)
- Discretion to manage confidential and sensitive information
- Ability to interact in a collegial manner with a culturally diverse group of faculty, staff, and students
- Superb verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a high regard for detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of poster design software and creation
- Preferably a Bachelor's Degree in WGSS or related field

Schedule
This is a temporary, part-time position anticipated to work a minimum of 20 hours per week from September 2026 through December 2026. This type of appointment is not approved to work more than 999 hours per year for all positions combined.
