Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote intellectual and educational development of participants through individual and group recreational and social activity.
- Provide recreational activities for participants on a daily basis in the form of small groups.
- Instruct participants in daily exercise.
- Escort participants as needed (field trips, restrooms, activities, social and medical services, etc.).
- Absorb participants with meals and snacks daily.
- Engage participants in outdoor activities (walks, gardening, etc.).
- Responsible for accurate, complete and timely collection and submission of participant information for inclusion in CMS/Units of Service.
- Maintain accurate and timely daily attendance records of all participants and meal service.
- Serve as backup to assist the kitchen staff with serving meals.
- Absorb with planning program activities.
- Serve on the Recreation Planning Committee, Safety Committee, and/or other committees as needed.
- Ensure required documentation including but not limited to Second Harvest, Units of Service, and Bathroom schedule.
- Supervise program participants at the agency and when attending outings.
Required Skills and Expectations
- Possesses creativity and good organizational skills in developing program activities.
- Possesses ability and an interest in working with low income elderly and disabled adults.
- Able to appropriately instruct and assist participants in various recreational and social activities.
- Able to communicate effectively with staff, participants, caregivers, volunteers and visitors.
- Possesses a demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of poverty, oppression, sexism, racism, ageism and other forms of societal and individual prejudice that confront our staff, volunteers, program participants and community at-large.
- Proven ability to work effectively, respectfully, and harmoniously with a broad range of people from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Able to engage and motivate program participants and staff to increase their self-sufficiency and work towards resolution of the challenges.
- Able to advocate on behalf of program participants and believe that program participants have the capacity to grow and change.
- Demonstrated philosophy and value consistent with the purpose and goals of Clover, utilizing a strengths and empowerment perspective and working towards increasing the capacities of program participants and their families.
- Able to work holistically, as part of a team, with staff, program participants and their families, volunteers and the community at-large toward successful outcomes for program participants.
- Respects the integrity of each program participant, their right to privacy and confidentiality and their right to participate in our programs.
- Maintains confidentiality with respect to personnel and proprietary agency information.
- Able to meet deadlines, well organized, and able to work under pressure of multiple deadlines; demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.
- Acts as a role model within and outside of the agency.
- Adheres to agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED and a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant).
