About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Florida offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, as well as a minor in Aerospace Engineering. With 30 full-time faculty members, the department collaborates across the College of Engineering and with other colleges, including Medicine, Arts & Sciences, Marine Science, Education, Nursing, and Public Health.

The department maintains strong ties with numerous USF research centers, such as the Nanotechnology Research and Education Center, Center for Urban Transportation Research, Center for Assistive Rehabilitation Robotics & Technologies, Clean Energy Research Center, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, and Global Center for Hearing and Speech Research.

The College of Engineering, established in 1964 and led by Dean Levi Thompson, is ranked #56 among public institutions (#89 overall) by U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 engineering graduate school rankings. About the Role

The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the Professor of Instruction level in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. Applicants with backgrounds in aeronautics, astronautics, or any area of mechanical engineering are encouraged to apply. The position is expected to commence in Spring 2027 or earlier.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality instruction in aerospace or mechanical engineering courses.
• Develop and enhance laboratory resources and teaching materials.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
• Contribute to curriculum development and teaching innovation.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Proven track record of teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and teaching-related publications.
• Experience or potential for developing laboratories.
• Strong commitment to mentoring students at all levels.
