Professional Tutor - Math (Part Time, Academic Year)

About the role

A professional tutor position is available for the academic year at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. This part-time role involves meeting with students individually or in small groups to provide academic support related to course content, course-related readings, and course-related written assignments, helping students to successfully complete their coursework. Additionally, tutors will provide instruction, teaching, and guidance in the area of academic success skills such as learning strategies, time management, etc.

Responsibilities

• Tutors students on specific course content, course-related readings, and course-related written assignments
• Tutors students in the area of academic success skills (e.g., learning strategies, time management, etc.)
• Collaborates with advisers, academic counselors, and faculty to meet student needs
• Attends tutor training sessions and staff meetings
• Administers individualized tests to students with accommodations
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field of study (e.g., statistics, economics, engineering, or other sciences requiring math proficiency)
• Ability to tutor subjects such as, but not limited to, freshman algebra, math for liberal arts majors, precalculus, and statistics
• Ability to work daytime hours on weekdays and occasionally on weekends for special events

Qualifications

• Preferred qualifications include experience tutoring or teaching students and proficiency in statistics
