Description of duties
- Ongoing monitoring and follow up with students identified as needing Professional Language support
- Meeting with ECP Portfolio coordinators and course instructors to coordinate specific instructional support mechanisms specific to PLD needs to meet English Language Proficiency requirements
- Design appropriate support activities and mechanisms for PLD students in 2nd to 4th year
- Collection and analysis of data generated through assessment activities, and documentation of breadth and impact of activities
- Provide mentorship and process orientation to new team members and support transition planning
- Ongoing monitoring of assignments and collaboration with Communication Coordinators to design appropriate support activities
- Design and delivery of training activities for development of CI capacity specific to language development in 2nd-4th year courses
- Liaison with FASE and student organizations (e.g., ACE) to continue outreach initiatives and develop new programs
- Must have the ability to adapt to different communication instruction activities and move online if required.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: include at least a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics or Second Language Education with strong written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to content-based instruction to advanced multilingual post-secondary students, experience with curriculum development and language assessment, a demonstrated ability to teach communication and to work as part of a team.
- Preferred Qualifications: include a PhD in an appropriate discipline (as above) and familiarity with engineering communication practices.
