Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)

About the role

We are partnering with a well-established civil engineering and surveying firm with a strong presence across the Southeast, currently expanding its operations in Charlotte, NC. Due to a growing project backlog across commercial, residential, and infrastructure developments, they are looking to bring on a Professional Land Surveyor who can play a key role in overseeing project delivery, maintaining quality standards, and supporting continued regional growth.

Responsibilities

• Managing and overseeing land surveying projects from initial scope through final deliverables
• Leading field crews and office staff to ensure accurate data collection, processing, and reporting
• Reviewing plats, boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and construction staking for quality and compliance
• Coinciding with internal engineering teams, project managers, and external clients
• Ensuring all work adheres to state regulations, safety standards, and company procedures
• Supporting proposal development, including scope definition and budgeting
• Mentoring junior surveyors and contributing to team development

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license (or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
• 5+ years of progressive experience in land surveying, including project oversight
• Strong knowledge of boundary law, survey standards, and field-to-finish workflows
• Experience with survey software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson, or similar
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Strong communication skills with both internal teams and external clients
• Leadership experience or desire to step into a leadership-focused role
