This position is located at the Division Office of the Nevada Division of State Parks in Carson City. The incumbent provides professional engineering services to support State Park capital improvement projects and Division operations.

About the Role

The position applies engineering principles to develop biddable plan sets, analyze complex technical data, and solve challenging engineering problems that affect daily operations. The incumbent ensures work is complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable regulations, policies, and industry best practices. The role involves planning, organizing, and managing project activities while coordinating with internal and external partners to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

Licensed professional engineers engage in the practice of professional engineering, including professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or responsibility for supervision of construction or operations in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment, and projects where public welfare or safeguarding of life, health, or property is concerned. Duties require independent control and direction, initiative, skill, and judgment in professional engineering work.

All positions in this series require licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, schedule, and oversee program/project activities by coordinating with other sections, divisions, and agencies to complete assignments on schedule and under budget.
  • Prepare, review, and ensure the accuracy and compliance of technical documents, reports, agreements, and correspondence.
  • Present complex engineering information to management and participate in public meetings as a technical expert.
  • Negotiate and manage consultant and contractor agreements.
  • Oversee projects from schematic design and permitting through preparation of bid documents, including construction management from project advertisement through closeout.
  • Participate in engineering design and CAD drafting; prepare bid documents, specifications, cost estimates, and permit applications; develop Requests for Proposals for consultant services.
  • Oversee consultant selection and contract management; administer construction activities, including bid solicitation, addenda processing, bid openings, contract development, billing review, change orders, submittals, and field inspections to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Review and approve the work of others; assist with grant applications; provide technical support and guidance to field staff.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • An incumbent registered as a Professional Engineer in another state must become registered in Nevada within six months of appointment.
  • A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Engineering principles and practices.
  • Practical application of calculus, algebra, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions, logarithms, scientific notation, and statistics.

Skills in:

  • The principles of engineering design.
  • Computer software programs related to engineering.

Ability to:

  • Perform advanced engineering calculations and make sound engineering judgments and decisions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; write technical and accurate engineering reports.
  • Interpret construction drawings, contract documents, technical specifications, and test results.
  • Analyze information to define problems, identify relevant concerns, formulate logical conclusions, and recognize alternatives and their implications.
  • Complete workload within established time frames; adapt to changes in workload and adjust priorities quickly.
  • Work independently with minimal direction; set priorities that reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, management, outside entities, and the public.
  • Operate a personal computer and engineering software; review and approve the work of others.
