About the Role
This position focuses on reviewing complex anesthesia-related documentation and translating clinical information into precise coding classifications. Key responsibilities include:
- Accurately reviewing medical documentation, assigning appropriate codes, and supporting compliant billing processes.
- Analyzing documentation to support appropriate reimbursement, compliance requirements, severity reporting, and risk adjustment processes.
- Communicating with physicians and healthcare professionals to obtain clarification and additional information required for accurate coding.
- Monitoring provider documentation quality, conducting audits, and providing education or feedback to improve coding accuracy.
- Researching and resolving missing charges, billing issues, and problematic accounts in collaboration with revenue cycle teams.
- Maintaining up-to-date coding knowledge through training sessions, seminars, internal meetings, and ongoing review of coding guidelines.
- Supporting compliance initiatives by following healthcare regulations, coding standards, and organizational policies.
- Maintaining productivity and quality standards while managing multiple priorities in a detail-oriented environment.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is a certified medical coding professional with experience interpreting clinical documentation and applying coding standards in healthcare settings. Key qualifications include:
- Strong analytical skills, communication abilities, and knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Experience with physician office coding preferred.
- Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, modifiers, coding guidelines, and healthcare reimbursement processes.
- Understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and clinical documentation practices.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy during interruptions and high-volume workflows.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions.
