SUMMARY

The Production Worker inspects donated items for defects and determines their appropriate outcome based on established quality standards. A Production Worker’s responsibilities include sorting, pricing, tagging, and preparing both textile and non-textile items for sale, recycling, or disposal. The Production Worker requires meeting daily production quotas while maintaining a low error rate, adhering to safety protocols, and being available to work on weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Removes item from bins or carts for close inspection to determine if item is saleable.
  • Scans clothing/textile items for defects such as holes, rips, tears, misaligned or missing fasteners or trim, and variations in color of fabric for clothing items.
  • Examines fabric for holes or stains.
  • Sorts textiles to determine quality and price or if item goes to As-Is, bale, or dump if appropriate
  • For non-clothing items, scans items for defects such as cracks, rust, broken or missing pieces, stains, and if item is operational.
  • Sort and price item accordingly.
  • Cleans item as needed.
  • Hangs, tags, and prices textile and non-textile items.
  • Works at different work stations as production needs require or stocking as needs arises.
  • Must meet the following production standards:
    • Grade and sort 2.5 carts or 486 units per hour with an error rate of less than 5%.
    • Complete (sort, hang, tag) ½ of a rack of clothing per hour or complete (sort, price) 4 totes of non-textile items per hour.
  • Conducts work in a safe and responsible manner utilizing protective clothing and equipment and complies with safety standards.
  • Responsible for awareness of and adherence to all company and safety policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Employees are regularly required to: stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally maneuver wheeled containers weighing up to 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather condition and heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
