Pay
The typical starting salary range for this position is $66,000 to $160,000 annually, depending on factors such as geographic location, education, experience, and skill set. The full salary range reflects competitive market value and opportunities for progression. GBLI also offers a total compensation plan including bonuses for all positions.
Responsibilities
- Review, price, and manage renewal business (multi-line with an emphasis on general liability and property) in accordance with company guidelines
- Select, price, quote, and decline new business in accordance with company underwriting guidelines and experienced underwriting judgment
- Manage assigned territory that supports the growth and profitability objectives established by the business unit
- Create strategic agency management plans that encompass production, loss ratio, travel, and marketing plans
- Respond to endorsement requests from existing accounts
- Provide 24-hour response time on new business submissions and same-day turnaround on phone calls and emails
- Work collaboratively with other Underwriters in the Unit to maintain 24-hour response time on new submissions
- 10-25% travel to assigned agents
- Develop and maintain collaborative business relationships with appointed agents to foster the generation of profitable business
- Accountability for the production and loss ratio performance of assigned agents
- Educate agents on Penn-America Group products and underwriting systems
Requirements
- 2+ years Property and Casualty Underwriting experience required, including expertise in general liability and property risks; experience underwriting Excess and Surplus lines preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required; professional designations (CPCU, AU, etc.) are a plus
- Experience working with wholesale brokers preferred
- Efficiently plan/manage agency visits and travel time
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to market Penn-America products to agents
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team with other underwriters
- Insurance rating experience is a plus
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
