Production Underwriter

About the role

Underwrite and produce profitable business in accordance with Company objectives and policies. Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Examines documents such as application forms, inspection reports, insurance maps, and past claims to determine degree of risk from factors including applicant financial standing, business operations, loss experience, value and condition of property, vehicles, inventory, and equipment.
• Works within specific authority level to quote, accept, decline, modify, and renew risks within territorial assignment in accordance with accepted underwriting guidelines.
• Determines coverage options and limits to be provided.
• Calculates standard rates and premium charges using approved formulas and tables.
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with agencies.
• Travels to develop and maintain understanding of agency force and territory intricacies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred.
• 1-3 years of underwriting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
