Production Team Member (Knife Jobs)

About the Role

Work on the pork production line performing repetitive tasks that may require the use of tools. Work in hot or cold temperature conditions (41 degrees Fahrenheit) while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and following all safety and food safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work in a fast-paced area where tasks may require repetition with the use of tools such as knives, saws, and whizard knives.
• Operate equipment in areas where pork is harvested, which may include bloody areas and handling raw meat.
• Work in areas where pork is fabricated and handle raw meat.
• Rotate through different work stations as production or supervisor needs require.
• Maintain internal and external relationships.
• Maintain KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and scorecards to drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure USDA regulatory compliance, HACCP, SSOP, SOP, GMP, and SQF program quality and safety.
• Advocate and maintain a strong commitment to safety, including PPE, reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lockout-Tagout procedures, and Process Safety Management.

Requirements

• No prior experience or training required.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Basic math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions.
• Ability to handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• May be required to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles.
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (cut floor consistently at 41°F), and extreme heat.
• Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
• Loud noise level in the work environment.
