About the Role
Provide management, guidance, and direction to production staff while overseeing all extrusion and thermoforming operations during the assigned shift. Ensure the production schedule is achieved at expected costs, while meeting standards for safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Manage the production schedule by identifying and securing necessary resources (people, materials, etc.).
- Schedule and assign work to staff, managing and adjusting priorities as needed.
- Manage direct labor, materials, and other related costs to budget.
- Monitor production process and progress to meet production goals; troubleshoot problems as necessary.
- Ensure proper functioning of equipment by coordinating with maintenance and other departments.
- Coordinate with incoming/outgoing shift leaders and other staff to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff as needed.
- Provide ongoing training and development for staff on the shift.
- Foster a positive work environment through open communication, teamwork, and motivation.
- Provide performance feedback, recognition, coaching, counseling, or progressive discipline as needed.
- Resolve work and interpersonal conflicts.
- Ensure a safe work environment by enforcing organization safety standards and policies.
- Maintain a clean work area consistent with GMP guidelines.
- Maintain quality production by enforcing organization standards.
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying and recommending process enhancements, waste reduction, or production improvements.
- Ensure all production hours are entered in SAP for each line on each shift.
- Ensure work hours are accurately reported and maintained in the time-keeping system.
- Ensure all weight and quality checks are completed for each line during each shift.
- Send required shift updates at the end of each shift.
- Handle special projects and initiatives related to shift management as assigned.
Requirements
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience.
- Prior manufacturing experience in a high-speed environment.
- Knowledgeable of and/or trained in major safety-related activities (Lock Out/Tag Out, Behaviorally Based Safety, incident investigations, etc.).
- Knowledgeable of and/or trained in major quality-related activities (statistical process control, etc.).
- Results orientation with a high level of personal initiative, energy, and ownership for success.
- Strong supervision and team leadership skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with all levels of employees.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with SAP is a plus.
- Ability to understand and interpret the production schedule.
- Basic knowledge of material handling, extrusion, and thermoforming processes and machinery to identify issues and corrective actions.
- Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety, security, and regulatory compliance.
