About the role

The Supervisor oversees all aspects of manufacturing at our Kankakee, IL facility, organizing and monitoring workflow across all production shifts. Responsibilities include developing cost-effective processes, reducing waste, increasing productivity, and enhancing employee satisfaction. The role involves troubleshooting processes, providing ongoing training, conducting inventory, and ensuring safety policy compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate the production and packing schedule to all shifts, including participating in hiring to meet production goals.
  • Coach new employees and evaluate worker performance.
  • Implement continuous improvement activities to reduce waste and increase productivity.
  • Lead the team in applying Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for safe food and feed.
  • Set an example by following processes and adhering to all safety policies.
  • Troubleshoot processes to maintain consistent in-spec production throughput.
  • Assist in maintaining staff through interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Provide ongoing training on:
    • Start-up and shut-down of Heat Treat/Toasting line.
    • Production line operation, quality control, and troubleshooting.
    • Production computer work (rate recording, packing recording, etc.).
    • Proper cleaning procedures for facilities and equipment.
    • Work safety and Good Manufacturing Practices.
    • Start-up and shut-down of Specialty Milling.
  • Implement process improvements and assist in their development.
  • Ensure all quality requirements are met daily; communicate non-conformances to management.
  • Drive manufacturing staff results by communicating expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job performance.
  • Maintain workflow by monitoring processes, observing equipment, and coordinating resources.
  • Troubleshoot product quality discrepancies and execute adjustments to ensure finished product quality.
  • Enforce organization standards to maintain quality service and a safe, clean work environment.
  • Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, and recommending solutions.
  • Assist with Incident Report Investigations, determine root causes, and propose corrective actions.
  • Maintain a food safety culture regarding food defense, quality, and cGMPs for production and warehousing.
  • Oversee boiler house responsibilities, including start-up and shut-down as needed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the fire system and respond to calls as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred.
  • Five or more years of relevant manufacturing experience (food manufacturing preferred).
  • Three or more years of supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude required.
